Whether you are looking to learn the basics of keelboat sailing, planning on buying your first sail boat, or sharpening your crew skills, Smelly Onion Sailing offers courses and instructional programs are designed to meet your goals. Our courses are structured in small group settings, providing a hands-on opportunity to learn at your pace. Class sizes are limited to six students with two instructors, ensuring you receive maximum individual attention.
Team Building and Development
On a sailboat, very different personalities learn how to work together to accomplish a common goal. Good leadership skills are developed, trust and respect are fostered. Everyone aboard learns to work together, take and give commands, share the goal of maximizing the sailboat’s potential. Smelly Onion Sailing's captains and facilitators specialize in teaching people how to sail successfully and work together for a common goal.
Program Benefits
Maximizing a sailboat’s performance is remarkably similar to maximizing a company’s performance.
Each team member will rotate as captain and crew. Company leaders will experience taking orders from an employee when they are tasked with crewing instead of leading, and employees discover how challenging it is to be in the driver’s seat. This all results in renewed respect for one another's roles and responsibilities.
Anyone, of any age, or size and strength can participate in Smelly Onion Sailing's Team Building workshop because sailing is forgiving. Everyone aboard learns to work together, take and give commands, share the goal of maximizing the sailboat’s potential. Whether your group includes people who are avid sailors or boating novices, young or old, fit or not so fit, they are encouraged to participate and learn equally. After just a few hours everyone gains comfort and confidence aboard, discovering how to work as a team to capably reach the finish line. Our team building courses can be a half day, full day or multiple days. No matter the length, the same goal of creating a group mindset can be achieved.
